Our Approach to Psychotherapy
Every person’s experiences are different. The concerns that bring someone to therapy, their personal history, and the changes they hope to make can all influence the therapeutic process.
Our clinicians draw on established therapeutic approaches and clinical training to develop care that reflects each client’s needs. Therapy may involve exploring patterns in thoughts and behaviours, developing emotional regulation skills, strengthening communication, or working through difficult experiences.
Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Our focus is on understanding what matters to each client and identifying appropriate next steps together.
-
Individualized care
Goals and approaches are considered in the context of each person’s circumstances. -
Evidence-informed practice
Approaches are selected according to client needs, available evidence, and the clinician’s qualifications. -
Collaborative goal-setting
Clients are encouraged to help identify concerns and discuss their goals for therapy. -
Ethical and professional practice
Care follows applicable professional standards, confidentiality requirements, and scope of practice. -
Ongoing reflection
The process can be reviewed as needs, circumstances, and goals change.
Meet Our Clinical Team
Choosing a therapist is an important decision. Professional qualifications, clinical experience, areas of practice, and therapeutic approach can all help you decide whether a clinician may be a suitable fit.
InnerLinks is led by Registered Psychotherapists and other regulated clinicians committed to ethical practice, professional development, and individualized care. Their approaches may draw on CBT, DBT, ACT, EMDR, and schema therapy, depending on individual qualifications and areas of practice.
We encourage prospective clients to review our clinicians’ professional backgrounds and discuss their needs before deciding on the next step.
Therapy for Adults, Adolescents, and Children
The concerns a person experiences and the support they need can vary according to their age, circumstances, relationships, and goals.
Therapy for Adults
Support for stress, anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, grief, and significant life changes. Therapy may help you understand recurring patterns, develop coping strategies, and work towards personal goals.
Therapy for Adolescents
Adolescence can bring changes in identity, relationships, school demands, and emotional well-being. Young people can explore their experiences and strengthen coping skills in a supportive setting.
Therapy for Children
Children may show distress through changes in behaviour, difficulties with peers, or trouble adjusting to family and school. Child-focused therapy supports emotional expression, coping, and social development, with family involvement where appropriate.
Our Therapeutic Approaches
Different approaches address different concerns and patterns. Depending on the client’s needs and the clinician’s training, therapy may incorporate:
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
Examines the connections between thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.
Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)
Develops skills for emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and interpersonal effectiveness.
EMDR
Supports psychological flexibility and action guided by personal values.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Supports psychological flexibility and action guided by personal values.
Schema Therapy
Explores longstanding patterns that may influence emotions, relationships, and responses to difficult situations.
Fit matters
These methods are not interchangeable. Suitability depends on the individual and the clinician’s qualifications.
In-Person and Virtual Therapy
Accessing therapy in a way that fits your circumstances can be an important part of getting started.
In-person
Appointments are offered within Peel Region, subject to service availability and clinical suitability.
Virtual across Ontario
Sessions use a telehealth videoconferencing platform on a compatible computer or mobile device. Plan for a private space and a reliable internet connection so conversations stay confidential.
You can choose your preferred format when booking. Not sure which suits you? Discuss it during your initial consultation.
Clinical Supervision
In addition to psychotherapy services, InnerLinks offers clinical supervision focused on ethical practice, reflective learning, and professional development.
Supervision gives practitioners an opportunity to reflect on their work, consider professional responsibilities, and strengthen clinical decision-making within their scope of practice.
Take the First Step Towards Therapy
Finding the right support can begin with a conversation. If you are considering psychotherapy for yourself or your child, InnerLinks offers a free 15-minute consultation to discuss your initial concerns, ask questions, and explore possible next steps.
The consultation is an initial conversation rather than a full clinical assessment, and it does not guarantee that a particular treatment will be appropriate.
